Attendance Policy

High School Class Attendance Rules

 

  1. High school students absent from eleven class periods will receive a grade of F for that particular course. This rule applies to all absences, whether excused or unexcused.

  2. Each school shall develop procedures for students to make up excessive class absences. Students may appeal the decision in this regard according to procedures established by the principal. The principal’s decision on the appeal is final.


Excused Absences:  Absences for reasons listed below are considered excused and are to be

coded as an excused absence from school:

  1. Illness or injury of the student
  2. Death in the immediate family
  3. Quarantine
  4. Medical/Dental appointments
  5. Religious observances
  6. Educational opportunity (Form 5123.2)
  7. Local school board policy
  8. Child care (for student’s child)
  9. Absence related to deployment activities
  10. Court or administrative proceeding

Unexcused Absences:  Absences for reasons listed below and for any other absences not listed

above are unexcused and are to be coded as an unexcused absence from

school:

  1. Bad weather
  2. Missing the bus
  3. Car trouble
  4. Oversleeping
  5. Lack of heat, water or electricity
  6. Shopping
  7. Baby sitting

The following absences are school initiated, approved:

Field trip (school-initiated activity)
Verified interview—College Day (high school juniors and seniors)
Special programs (community program sanctioned by the school District)
Explorers (secondary schools)
Internship (includes pages—secondary schools)
Junior Achievement (secondary schools)
